Calling all moms

Okay. . . I need some help. How do you get your little one to be like this (asleep) on a more regular basis? My son just does not want to sleep, day or night. Any and all tricks or suggestions are appreciated! Thanks in advance, Miles awfully tired mother.

  1. Read the book Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child by Marc Weissbluth. Shelly swore by it but I didn't read it until Eli was 6 months. He was a monster and wouldn't nap. I read the book, tried the sleep training - just about tore my hair out doing it - and now he sleeps like an angel. It is soooo worth it. It IS the sleep bible. I have also heard friends talk about Baby Wise, but I never read that one.

  2. We got Kallin sleeping 12 hours through the night with 2 consistent naps during the day by the time he was 3 months old. We used the book "12 Hours Sleep By 12 Weeks Old." It's super easy and quick reading, and while it takes a lot of work (and a lot of awake time at night, which it sounds like you are already getting) the result it so, so, so worth it.

It is not at all a cry it out method. It is simply how to teach your baby to sooth himself if he wakes up and how to go longer between feedings so that he can sleep through the night. I never once felt like it was unnatural or mean to Kallin.

Allie didn't sleep through the night until she was 10 months old. Bad sleeping habits are hard to break. Nip it in the bud and get some sleep!!

  3. I've told new moms not to expect to be a normal human for at least two months! They are so little yet are so much work.

  4. Call me!!! I will send you my number to your work email. I would rather tell you what worked for my kids over the phone instead of commenting on your blog! Plus, we can set a time when you can drop him off and go do something....shop, quiet lunch, work out, TAKE A NAP, or whatever. As a new mommy, you will need it!!!

  6. I'm still working on this with Whitney, but with Brayden he is a great sleeper... I highly recommend Celeste suggestion. "12 hours of sleep by 12 weeks old" (Thanks Celeste it was a life saver) Brayden still sleep 12 hours and all I do is lay him in his bed at night. He loves his crib.

  7. Colt was a light sleeper and I was a softy unfortunately. I ended up skim-reading Baby Wise and it did help. I think you take in all the info. you can and then adjust it to your little one. Oh, I will do it better with the next one and have better established routines! You live, you learn right and sometimes you just survive!

  8. Well, I wanted to put in my plug for "Happiest Baby on the Block."
Love it. And if that doesn't work, I would just remember "This too shall pass!" :) And it does. too fast. Good Luck!
